Simple Hacks for Organizing Your Closet

Organizing by color: Color code your closet

I don’t know about you, but I have about five minutes to find the perfect outfit before my kids start getting into any and everything. Especially if you have little ones, this tip is a lifesaver! Organize your closet by colors instead of type to help you find what you’re looking for easier.

Get rid of clothes you don’t need

These could be those workout clothes you don’t fit into anymore or that dress that is no longer as flattering as it used to be. If it’s something that no longer fits or is worn out beyond repair, let go of the guilt and let go of those clothes!

Store seasonal clothes until you need them

Don’t keep winter clothes sitting on hangers during the summer. This will not only make it harder to find what you can wear but give you the illusion that you have way more options than you do! Store those out of season pieces in bins on the floor, on a shelf or under your bed.

Organizing by shelf: Use labeled bins for storing items

Store everything from shoes to seasonal tops you only wear once a year in a labeled bin at the top of your closet. This will make it easier for you to find these when you need them, but they’re out of the way when you don’t need them!

Invest in a way to store your shoes

Whether it’s a drawer, rack, or even an entire organizer designed for shoe storage, find some way to store your shoes. Keeping them on the floor will lead to a big mess, and finding matching shoes will turn into a constant chore.

Organizing without spending money: Turn your hangers

As a busy mom, I don’t always have time to declutter my entire closet. But this easy trick will make doing just that simple! Hang up your clothes like normal, then whenever you wear something, turn the hanger in the opposite direction. At the end of the season, get rid of anything that hasn’t been turned!

Don’t waste your wall and door space

If you are working with a small space, don’t be afraid to use the back of a door or even an unused wall in your closet. You can store jewelry or even shoes using an over the door organizer or add shelving to your wall to get your purses organized. Utilizing vertical space is a great way to add more value to your closet!

Try to contain all of your clothing items in one spot

If you are trying to manage all of your clothes, try your best to keep clothing items of a single type in one space. For example, if you are storing dresses, don’t leave some in your dresser and others in bins. Hang them all up so you can see them all!
