How to Make Spicy Basil Fried Rice

The first step to making your own fried rice at home is to cook the rice. You can use freshly cooked rice or leftover rice, just make sure it’s prepared before you start your dinner. Prepare the white rice according to the package instructions.

While the rice is cooking, you can begin preparing the chicken. Start by heating the vegetable oil over medium heat in a large skillet. When the oil is hot, add the chicken breast, along with the onion, peppers, and garlic. Cook the chicken, stirring often, until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are tender.

When the chicken is cooked, add the cooked rice, fish sauce, and soy sauce. Stir until all the ingredients are mixed and the sauces are well incorporated. Reduce the heat to low, then push the rice, chicken and veggies to the side of the pan.

In the clear area of the pan, add your eggs and scramble them until they’re cooked through. Once the eggs are cooked, you can stir them into the rice mixture until all the ingredients are well mixed.

Remove the pan from the hot stove and stir in your fresh basil leaves. Stir the basil into the rice. You’ll notice that the basil leaves begin to cook as you stir thanks to the steam from the cooked rice.

After the basil leaves have softened, you can serve your spicy fried rice. Before serving, garnish the rice with chopped green onion and more jalapeno to add an extra kick to your spicy dish.
