What are Sachets?

Sachets are small, scented cloth bags often filled with aromatic ingredients. They’re used to scent clothing and linens and protect them for soaking in odors as they’re stored. Sachets are used in a variety of ways throughout the house, which means they’re a fun craft project that can be extremely useful, too!

How to Make Sachets with Essential Oil

Essential oils are a great way to scent your sachets. Not only are they a natural ingredient, they also provide your sachets with a long-lasting scent. And when the scent does eventually fade, all you have to do is add a few more drops of oil to refresh them!

But the best part about using essential oil in your sachets is that it’s so easy to do. All you need to make essential oil sachets is:

Scrap fabric: used to hold the ingredients in place
Rice: to absorb bad odors and hold in the scent of the essential oils
Essential oil: to add a natural scent to your sachets
Ribbon or twine: used to secure the top of your sachets

After gathering all your supplies, cut your scrap fabric into small squares, around four inches by four inches. Place a few tablespoons of rice on top of each fabric square.

Add a scent to your sachets by placing 10 drops of your favorite essential oil or oil blend to your sachets.

Close your essential oils sachets by gathering up the corners of the fabric and pinching the fabric together at the top of the rice pile. Wrap your string or twine around the fabric and secure it with a bow.

When you notice the scent begin to fade from your sachets, simply untie the twine and add more essential oil to the rice. Then, close the sachet and secure the twine again to reuse your sachets over and over again.

Uses for Sachets

There are a variety of great ways to use your sachets around the house! Make a bunch of sachets and place them anywhere you store soft items, like:

In your closet. Keep your clothing fresh between washes by placing sachets in each of your closets.
On the shelves of your linen closet. Make sure your sheets and towels stay fresh by placing sachets in your linen closet.
In your suitcases. Keep your luggage smelling great while it’s being stored by adding sachets to the inside of each suitcase.
Inside storage containers. Make sure everything you store away has a fresh scent by placing a sachet inside your storage containers before putting them away.
